Funny you should ask
It's quite simple... Erm... Well, you see... It all started a long, long time ago in- Oh no, wait, that's something else entirely. Actually, we're a bit hard to explain. So pardon us if this falls short.
Fact: The English language has a lot of words.
Fact: The English language has a lot of words.
Fact: There was this really cool website that we loved that turned words/phrases into stories.
Fact: We were really bored.
Add those facts up and what do you get?
The Dictionomicon!
[No, we're not sure there's logic there either.]

That doesn't answer anything.
You are completely correct. Let's try again, shall we?
The Dictionomicon is a collective of creative contributors who get a new word each week to incorporate into anything it might inspire them to make.
How do you choose the words?
The words are chosen mostly at random. We have a shoe box. It's not a very impressive box but it is filled with all the possibilities. Once every week we reach in and whatever emerges is the word prompt.
We try to come up with words that follow any or all of the following criteria:

We try to come up with words that follow any or all of the following criteria:
- "Hey, I've never heard that word before!"
- "That's totally not English. Is that English? Oh my goodness, that's English."
- "How come no one ever uses [insert word here] anymore? It's awesome!"
- "Can we use this word?" "Of course we can, we can use every word."
The Dictionomicon is welcome to word suggestions as well as creative submissions! If you have a word that you would like to see appear in our prompts, please e-mail us at dictionomicon@gmail.com. Your word will be transcribed onto less-than-fanciful notebook paper and enter the magical realm of the shoe box.
Who can contribute?
You can! and you, over there on the couch, you can too! Hey, don't think I missed you curled up on the floor reading this on your phone... You are also totally welcome to create something!
You can e-mail your creations to dictionomicon@gmail.com
There are also weekly contributors that you'll notice popping up time and time again.
[In fact, this is being written by one of them. Hello, Fourth Wall, don't mind if I just smash myself through here do you? Oh, good, wonderful. I'm Noël. Nice to meet you. Can't wait to see what you make. Shall we return to the regularly scheduled programming?]
Make sure to include the name/penname/email/tumblr username/twitter handle/anything else we might be forgetting that you would like to be identified by with your submission. They will be published with your creation [unless you request to be kept anonymous], so keep that in mind!

But wait.. What exactly am I contributing?
Here's our favorite part. Anything. Absolutely anything.
The first [or second, or third, or forty-second] thing that your mind comes up with when it sees the word!
Oh, you look a bit nervous. Is anything too vague? You want more specifics? That's okay, we can give you some examples. Here, have some tea. Sit back, get comfortable, we just want you to be happy.

- Short Stories! [or long stories. or in-between stories. basically string together words and logic and BAM! you've got a contribution]
- Poems [of all varieties. you can throw them all at us: iambic pentameter, haiku, concrete, spoken word... if it's in your head, it can be on our site]
- Pictures [pens, pencils, crayons, markers, paintbrushes, cameras, multiple mediums welcome]
- Comics [one panel, two panel, 20 panel? tell us a story with your artistic skill.]
- Videos [upload to Youtube and drop us a line.]
Those are the bare examples. If you can think of something to make. You can make it.
All we ask is keep it legal, SFW, and use the word somewhere in the creation.
Where can I find the words?

Where can I find the words?
We will put the word prompts up every Saturday.
They can be found on our main page, tumblr, and Elder Words page.
Do I still own the works I submit?
Of course. All creations belong to their respective creators.

Anything else?
